Tinnitus – Mindfulness and Relaxation – 30th November 2017

Join us at 18:30 on the 30th November at Dragonfly lifestyle for our next Tinnitus Rooms Masterclass. Mindfulness and relaxation is the topic of choice. In your chairs we will guide you through several scripted mindfulness and relaxation exercises.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is about focussing our thoughts on the present moment and being aware and accepting of how we are feeling in our mind and in our body.

What is relaxation?

One definition of relaxation is ‘a state of being free from tension and anxiety’.

Why is mindfulness and relaxation related to tinnitus?

It is widely accepted that stress and anxiety can have a significant impact on the way we perceive our tinnitus.

It is easy to sit in bed, or in a quiet place, and let our internal monologue create strong negative feelings and emotions towards anything stressful in our lives. It is at these moments that we can spiral in to a dark place which is very difficult to pick ourselves out of.

These negative emotions and feelings have a physical impact on our body. We can feel breathless and agitated which prevents us from enjoying the quieter periods in our life.

Relaxing or being mindful are not practices most people can do instictively. It is a skill that must be learnt and practiced regularly.

Mindfulness is the method of helping us to become aware of our emotions and sensations. Rather than fighting these feelings, mindfulness teaches you how to accept them.

Relaxation is a different approach and is about actively taking charge of our bodies. By controlling our bodily functions and keeping our minds focussed, often on a soothing repetitive task, we can place ourselves in to a state of relaxation.
